ISA

How do I transfer my ISA to YBS?

Under HM Revenue & Customs rules, you can transfer your ISA to another provider at any time.

If you do not currently have an ISA with YBS, you will need to open an ISA account by completing the relevant application form. Details of our ISA products can be found under Tax Free Savings.

To transfer funds from your current ISA provider to your YBS ISA, please complete an ISA Transfer form and send it to your current ISA provider together with any passbook or certificate you have with them.

Please note that providers have 30 days plus any notice period that applies to your account to complete the transfer. Upon receipt of your funds from your current provider, we will credit/open your YBS Cash ISA and send you written confirmation.

How do I transfer my YBS ISA to a different provider?

You will need to arrange the transfer with your chosen new provider and complete a transfer request. The new provider will then contact us to arrange the transfer.

If you need any further information, please call our Member Contact Centre on 0845 1 200 100.

How do I change my YBS ISA to a different YBS ISA product?

I didn’t invest in my ISA in the last year tax and want to invest this tax year what do I need to do?

When funds have not been deposited into your ISA account for one or more tax years, you are required to complete a Break Between Subscription Form. This is a requirement of HM Revenue and Customs and we are unable to accept funds into the account until the form has been completed and returned. Please send the completed form together with your passbook/certificate, if applicable to your account, to the following address:

Savings Service
Yorkshire Building Society
Yorkshire House
Yorkshire Drive
Bradford
BD5 8LJ

Alternatively, you can take the form to your local branch

Why has my money been returned from my ISA account?

The funds may have been returned because:

  • No funds have been deposited into the account for one or more tax years. In order to deposit funds, you are required to complete a Break Between Subscription Form. The form is a requirement of HM Revenue and Customs and we are unable to accept funds into the account without a completed form
  • The amount you have sent us exceeds your remaining ISA allowance for the current tax year.
  • You have subscribed into more than one ISA in the tax year

For more information on ISA visit our ISA's explained section

Why is my YBS e-ISA showing an online restriction?

The restriction on your ISA account may be in place as if you did not pay into it during the last tax year, no further deposits can be made into the account until a Break Between Subscription Form is completed.

The form is a requirement of HM Revenue and Customs as there have been no funds deposited into your ISA account for one or more tax years.

Faster Payments

What are 'Faster Payments' and when were they introduced?

Faster Payments are electronic payments that can be made through UK banks, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year using the Faster Payments Service.

This is a banking industry initiative to speed up electronic payments in the UK. Payments sent through Faster Payments usually reach the receiving bank on the day that they're sent.

The Faster Payments Service has been phased in since 27 May 2008. Most of the major UK banks now operate this facility.

What type of Faster Payment Service is YBS offering?

We started accepting incoming faster payments during April 2009.

We do not currently provide a facility for our customers to send faster payments but this is being considered as a possible development in future years.

What types of payment transactions are received by YBS via the Faster Payments?

Internet/Telephone banking payments and regular standing order payments for savings and mortgage accounts are received from external banks offering an outward Faster Payment Service to their customers.

How soon are faster payments credited to YBS accounts?

Faster payments are usually credited the same day but no later than the next working day.

What are the Faster Payments transaction value limits?

Each Financial Institution can decide its own limits but the maximum Faster Payments scheme limits are:

  • Up to £10,000 - Internet and telephone banking payments
  • Up to £100,000 - Standing order payments

It is possible that these limits may increase in the future.

Can Faster Payments be stopped once payments have been sent?

Faster Payments cannot be stopped once the payment has been sent. If customers need to recover their monies, they will need to contact the recipient for a refund. Please bear this in mind when arranging to send payments to your YBS account using this service.

Does FPS affect BACS or CHAPS Payments?

No. These systems are unaffected as the Faster Payment Service is offered in addition to these.
